The peninsula Samana
is to be bathed with her waterfalls, lakes, caves and rivers
almost too a pity around only on the endless, miles long
beaches, snorkel or dive. From here are offered a huge number by
worthwhile excursions.
National park Los Haitises:
The
Taínos, the natives Hispaniolas, the impassable area called "
mountainous land " between the Bahía de Samaná and the
Cordillera Oriental which is especially protected as a Parque
Nacional lot Haitises. The erosion created here from the
limestone one of the geologically most interesting scenery forms
of the Caribbean: a distinctive, excessively covered karstland
with far branched cave systems, collapse craters (Dolinen) and
imposing stone pileworks (Mogotes) which appear partly as
islands (Cayos) before the coast.
In the vast mangrove belts as well as in the tropical rain
forest in the inland physical lovers can also study the life of
the palm chatterbox, the dominicaine national bird, under approx.
120 different bird's kinds. The Siboneyes and later the Taínos
already illustrated around 2,000 the fantastic primeval
landscape, linked with her religious images, B.C. in the
numerous cave pictures in which whales, fish and insects as well
as a shaman (Behique) are to be seen.
Waterfall El Limon:
About
10 km in southeast direction of Las Terrenas there is the small,
pretty village El Limon, a small farm village which lies in a
hilly scenery. About 2 km away from this village there lies the
waterfall somersaults de Limon, the biggest waterfall of the
peninsula and second largest waterfall of the whole Dominican
Republic. Breathtaking nicely work the cascades of the waterfall
El Limón which lies hidden in the rain forest and shows a
popular destination. Who has the walk above partly very slushy
ways behind himself, can be glad about a "tingling" bath. The
water falls 50 m deep.
Jeepsafaris:
Who would like to visit the locals in her naturalness in the
hinterland of the Dominican Republic, this can explore by jeep.
These become also controlled tour offers. Because the traffic
routes were done in these regions primarily for horses and
donkeys, it can become after stronger rainfall absolutely also
sometimes a little bit mushy ...! A real adventure!
Boca di Diabolo,
the " nostril of the devil ". On the way there it goes past an
old desolate marble mine. The adjoining mountain train which is
covered with countless column cacti and agaves is impressive. A
marvellous panorama. The " nostril of the devil " is a small
throat washed out by the sea. With suitable surf the approx. 20
m deeper situated water of the sea is condensed in this throat
and a water jet shoots upwards. The stronger the surf, the
